The A. Philip Randolph Institute, the oldest constituency group of the AFL-CIO, is dedicated to the memory and work of labor pioneer Asa Philip Randolph (1889 - 1979).  Randolph was the greatest Black Labor leader in American history and the father of the modern American civil rights movement.

Mr. Randolph, along with his protege Bayard Rustin, forged an alliance between the civil rights movements and the labor movement.  They recognized that blacks and working people of all colors share the same goals: Political and social freedom and economic justice.

The Phoenix Chapter of the APRI is dedicated to building bridges between Labor and all communities of working people here in the Valley of the Sun through active involvement.  We have an array of progressive programs designed to improve the lives of working people and to fulfill the dreams and visions of our founder, A. Philip Randolph.
"Freedom is never given; it is won."
- A. Philip Randolph
